GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS
AND SUSTAINABLE WATER MANAGEMENT

This document, drawn up under the responsibility of Isted, is the result of an initiative of Cnig with the support of Drast, and Afigéo which aims to gather experiences in geographic information systems applied to water management. It is a contribution to the third World Water Forum to be held in Kyoto in March 2003.

This is a collection of case studies of French experiences in geographic information systems, which have applications as tools for the implementation of protection and monitoring policies. The presentations of pratical achievements can help to enrich study and debate on the use of new information and communication technologies dedicated to the environment.

This publication is intended to be disseminated widely to foreign partners since it is a tool for the promotion of French knowhow in this field.
