The EU-Asia co-operation programme Asia IT&C (Information Technology and Communication), has been initiated by the European Commission in late 1999, following the Asia-Europe meetings (ASEM) of Heads of Governments; more information on this site:

This programme aims at improving co-operation between Asia and Europe in the identification and implementation of information-technology and communication applications, for agriculture, education, health, transport, society, tourism, intelligent manufacturing and electronic commerce. This programme has been extended to China by the end of 2001.

Six components have been designed to give a focus to the type of being submitted.
