The Transport Department develops activities using a multimodal approach to formulate and implement sectoral development policies for ports, airports, railways, road and urban transport, road safety and tourism. It catalyses Isted members' skills for development and contributes to their international operations. It provides leadership for cooperation schemes.

The Department's action includes:

facilitating networks of decision-makers, experts and researchers;
running training programs locally and in France;
implementing in-situ expert missions over the short or medium term;
disseminating knowledge: conferences, seminars, publications.

These operations are performed for French contracting authorities - Ministries in charge of Foreign Affairs, Construction, Transport… - and for international clients.

The Department represents the French expertise in networks and programs initiated by the European Commission and/or the World Bank, such as the "Global Road Safety Partnership" (GRSP). In support to the French Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport, Housing, Tourism and the Sea, it is responsible for managing twinning programs with candidate countries seeking accession to the European Union.
