Sustainable Development

Building a future based on solidarity
between different generations, different peoples and different regions

Once they have been explained to them, most of our fellow citizens agree with the objectives of sustainable development and wish to see them implemented. However, people are still insufficiently aware of the need for urgent action, to undertake as from now a gradual but profound change in our behaviours and modes of governance.
Sustainable development is not something one can decree; it is the outcome of the mobilization of every individual which allows them to act. While in isolation we cannot solve what is a global problem, we nevertheless have the responsibility of applying these principles on that part of the planet which is our national territory.
This is why I felt it important to applaud the Indre Département's initiative. This First International Forum on Sustainable Development is the concrete proof that these fundamental issues concern citizens and strongly highlights the fact that the actors involved in sustainable development, both in France and abroad, need to share experience, thoughts and know-how.
This is also the role we have set for our development aid initiatives, fostering dialogue between national actors; proposing mediation techniques to reconcile the present and future, resolving conflicts over the use of resources, providing universal access to essential goods and combating poverty and inequality.
