A
new tool to promote North-South exchanges
This
new "Lettre" from the Institut des Sciences et des Techniques de l'Équipement
et de l'Environnement pour le Développement (ISTED) succeeds the bulletin "Equipment
and Development", which ceased to be published in May 1993.
Its aim
is to present a new form of North-South partnership supported by leaders in the
field of French development aid in conjunction with the public and private sectors
involved in infrastructure projects. This partnership takes an institutional and
practical form combined with a purely technical approach. In particular it co-ordinates
networks of steering committees in geographical regions (West Africa, for example)
or at continental or global level.
The Institute's present activities focus
on organising contacts between the various networks of experts and the French
representatives, for whom it disseminates information and sets up specific aid
facilities.
To this end, the "Lettre de l'ISTED", will propose
subjects on activities in France in those sectors of urban development, roads,
transport and different infrastructure topics that have a direct bearing on the
North-South partnership, and on the exchange programmes currently in progress
between France and the developing countries.
But above all, ISTED aims to
provide readers with practical information on available training, publications,
documentation and interesting international events.
In short, a new communication
tool that forms an integral part of ISTED's basic missions and consists in encouraging
cultural, scientific and technical exchanges between the North and the South,
and promoting French skill and expertise on a global scale.
Jean
Baudoin,
President of ISTED
